Cytryn & Velazquez awarded $500 scholarship to Coral Glades High School honors graduate who played on two varsity teams.

Cytryn & Velazquez, P.A., a Coral Springs personal injury firm, presented Richard Ramsey, 18, with a $500 college scholarship on Friday, July 17, 2009. The scholarship award was based on the following criteria: the recipient had to be a Coral Glades High School senior who had the highest grade point average and who also played on at least two lettered sports teams in his junior and senior years but did not receive full scholastic or athletic scholarships to any college or university. Ramsey, 18, an honors graduate of Coral Glades High School and also a scholar/athlete award recipient, played both linebacker and tight end positions on the varsity football team and ran the 100-, 200-, and 400- meter races on the track and field team.

Ramsey, who plans to attend Broward College for his first two years and then transfer to Florida State University, will major in civil engineering. "I could have played football at other colleges," he said, "but I felt that it was more important to focus on the academic side of college life and my career aspirations." When not at his computer on the football or track fields, Ramsey enjoys spending time with family and friends and working out with weights.

According to Dan Cytryn, who originated the scholarship, "We wanted to recognize and reward a student whose outstanding academic and athletic achievements indicate a high level of motivation to succeed. I believe that the most successful people are generally those who set high standards for themselves and then work hardest to meet these objectives. And judging by his high school record, I'm sure that Richard will be successful at whatever career he chooses."
