Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 29, 2009
Sí TV, the first television network dedicated to inspiring and entertaining American Latinos in English, announced today its hit series Model Latina (http://www.sitv.com/modellatina) will return for a second season this Sunday night, August 2 at 9pm ET/PT. The original reality series showcases 15 stunning, fiercely determined women as they call upon their inner strength, beauty and intellect to prove they have what it takes to be this year's Model Latina. Miami's super-hot South Beach is home to this year's series where the extraordinary women will compete for the lucrative, career-building prizes and the coveted title of Model Latina.
While Model Latina features gorgeous contestants, the series puts a twist on typical model competition shows by emphasizing the distinctive beauty of what it means to be Latina. The call was open to Latinas ages 18-26 who could demonstrate that the have the brains, beauty and style required to be the Model Latina. The series differs from other modeling reality shows because it recognizes that the winner will be a spokesperson for the Latino community. Accordingly, the contestants are judged on their verbal and written skills, confidence, public speaking abilities and overall capability to assume this prominent role.
The 15 finalists represent numerous hometowns across the country. Casting sessions for Model Latina Miami were held in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco locations, where hundreds of potential contestants appeared at each location.
The uplifting and entertaining 13-episode series follows the hopefuls as they take a crash course in the fashion industry and especially what's involved in becoming a brand. Unlike other modeling competitions Model Latina Miami shows how the contestants strive to balance their Latino traditions with American culture from both a business and social perspective. Each episode has the participants facing rigorous challenges, testing them to be as much role models as they are runway models, while they vie for the opportunity to represent what it means to be a Model Latina.
Sí TV has assembled a stellar panel of judges for Model Latina Miami, all with the unique sensibilities to guide the future Latina stars. The expert panel of judges, which included TV personality Jai Rodriguez, celebrity stylist Jorge Ramón, actress/supermodel Jennifer Gimenez and Q Management's Jeffrey Kolsrud offer critical feedback and mentor the contestants throughout the entire series. Each week the judges face the tough decision of who stays and who goes, ultimately changing the direction of these women's lives with a single vote.
Expert guest judges representing the fashion and entertainment industry also appear throughout the run of the series. Designers Anel Verna and Nicole Sainz, Miami real estate guru (and former Apprentice star) Katrina Campins and actor Alfonso "Poncho" de Anda are among the diverse judges lending their expertise to the core panel to help find the newest Model Latina.
Maria Perez-Brown, Senior Vice President, Programming for Sí TV and an executive producer on Model Latina Miami reflected on the unique elements of the series, "At Sí TV, we are committed to developing dynamic programming as culturally rich as our audience. Model Latina proves that women who don't fit the typical '''size 0" stereotype can still be successful role models." She added, "I'm very proud of this series and I truly believe these young, hard-working, talented women epitomize brains, beauty and unique Latino style."
Last year's Model Latina winner, New Yorker Jessica Caban, parlayed her success on the show into a contract with L'Oreal, featured roles in music videos, magazine fashion spreads, a television commercial, a lead role in a sitcom ("Trevino") and many other projects.
Model Latina is an excellent platform for future models seeking to secure national exposure and actual fashion-business experience alongside talented executives. Among the prizes, the winner of Model Latina Miami will receive $10,000, a modeling contract with top talent agency, Q Management, the opportunity to become a Sí TV Host and much more.
