Adaptive Marketing LLC today announced a new Customer Care Membership Center to help its customers get to the bottom of charges they don't recognize on their credit card statements. The Center is a one-stop portal for customers of Adaptive Marketing's membership and loyalty programs, which offer a wide range of discounts on items and services that enhance people's lives and save them money.

The new Membership Center was launched because the credit card industry sometimes uses confusing billing descriptors to denote individual merchants on credit card statements. While there are some similarities, every credit card company has different guidelines for merchant billing descriptors. The merchant is often identified by a three-letter prefix plus an asterisk, followed by a short description of the product or service. Adaptive Marketing programs use the billing descriptor prefix MVQ. The entire descriptor is usually limited to 24 characters or less. Merchants can offer input in the creation of their billing descriptors, but credit card companies have the final say based on their guidelines.

Too often, consumers get their monthly credit card statements in the mail and see charges they don't recognize. Most of the time, it turns out they authorized the charges, but the abbreviated billing descriptors aren't familiar to them, and they fear they've become a victim of online fraud or theft.
