New X-Treme Green Bicycle and Motorcycle Featured on Summer Showcase Television Series

One of the major bright spots in the economic recovery of 2009 will be green products. Green products not only help us reduce our carbon footprint, but they also help us save money.

X-Treme scooters ( has been offering eco-friendly products since 2001. Two new X-Treme electric vehicles are being featured on the popular Summer Showcase Television series in August 2009 ( The new XM-4000Li, a certified green vehicle, is an electric moped/motorcycle that travels at a top speed of 50 miles per hour and can operate for 60 miles on a single electrical charge ( The XM-4000Li can improve your riding enjoyment or it can be used to commute to work. This motorcycle has 20 lithium batteries which have a life cycle of 7 - 10 years and can be recharged up to 2000 times. Unlike most electric moped/motorcycles on the road today, the lithium battery does not require daily charging. The XM-4000 Li retails between $4,300 - $4,500 and qualifies for the federal 10% tax credit for clean energy vehicles.

The second vehicle featured on the Showcase Television series is the X-Treme XB-300Li electric powered bicycle ( This electric bicycle has a 300 watt rear hub motor and travels 20 miles per hour. The bicycle is capable of operating 25 miles on a single electrical charge. The 7 lightweight lithium/ion batteries are housed in a sealed removable pack so that the rider can recharge the batteries indoors or outdoors. The bicycle is manufactured with top of the line components and only weighs 53 pounds and retails for $1,100 - $1,300.

Effective January 1, 2009, bicycle commuters can get a federal tax break of $20 per month, up to $240 annually. This tax break is known as the Bicycle Commuter Act and is part of President Bush's Stimulus Recovery Act. Employers may reimburse employees (tax free) for "reasonable" expenses related to their bike commute, including equipment purchases, bike purchases, repairs, and storage if the bicycle is used as a "substantial part" of the person's commute to work during any month.
