GatesmanMarmionDrake, Inc. announced today that Dave Kwasnick has joined the agency as Partner, Creative Director.

Respected as one of advertising's top creative minds, Kwasnick's work has been recognized by some of the industry's most prestigious award shows including Communication Arts, Kelly Awards, Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, Obies, Webby Awards and National Addy's. During his 17-year career, he has spearheaded campaigns for national brands such as Wrigley's Eclipse, Spearmint and Juicy Fruit gums, Coors Brewing Company, Stolichnaya Vodka, Zippo Lighters, Quest Communications and General Mills.

"Bringing Dave's level of thinking to our agency will significantly enhance all facets of the work we provide our clients, from print and television to interactive and public relations," said Bill Drake, Partner, Executive Creative Director. "We're very excited to have him aboard as a fourth partner knowing he possesses the same drive and entrepreneurial spirit we embrace here as an organization. His talent is nationally known, and he's an incredible writer and creative strategist."

Kwasnick's career started in Pittsburgh at Ketchum Advertising before carrying him to Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis and venerable Chicago agencies DDB, BBDO and FCB Worldwide. During his time at BBDO, he created "Hardware," a boutique agency housed within the walls of its parent company that allowed clients to push the limits of creative and challenged brands to swing for the fences.

In 2004 Kwasnick returned to Pittsburgh to lead Brunner's creative department as Vice President Group Creative Director. While there he helped develop the agency's most recognizable work including "The Lost Weekend" campaign for Cub Cadet Lawn Tractors, Zippo lighters "75th Anniversary" efforts and CONSOL Energy's highly successful and on-going "America's On Switch" campaign.

"Having Dave Kwasnick as a fourth partner gives us a unique creative dimension to our work," adds John Gatesman, Partner, Brand Management. "The combination of Dave and Bill Drake makes us the region's most powerful creative entity. At the end of the day, it's all about delivering results for our clients, and Dave will only add support to that passion and mantra we instill here at the agency."

"Over the last three years, we've worked hard to create a company that has the talent and capability to provide a comprehensive array of services in the context of a lean and pro-active culture," said GatesmanMarmionDrake Partner, President Frank Marmion. "Dave is a great fit in our high-energy environment and we believe his talent will add to our ability to compete on an even larger regional and national stage."

GatesmanMarmionDrake is one of Pittsburgh's fastest growing and most exciting agencies, and 2008 proved to be another banner year. The agency's work attracted several new big-name clients including Gabriel Brothers, Rugged Wearhouse, Mountaineer Racetrack and Casino and the Parkinson's Foundation. The new additions add to a client roster that includes SHOP 'n SAVE, Progressive Insurance, Quaker Steak & Lube, Courtesy Suzuki, the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, Standard Bent Glass Corp, Co-eXprise and ABARTA.

The agency also recently earned considerable press for its social media marketing approach for Qdoba Mexican Grill. The effort, which broke in time for the Stanley Cup finals, ignited sales by leveraging Penguins' coach Dan Bylsma's real-life gameday ritual of eating Qdoba burritos for good luck. National Coverage included ESPN, MSNBC, USA Today and and included a feature story in Advertising Age. Other highlights include the addition of several leading Web specialists to bolster the agency's interactive practice, the naming to the Pittsburgh Business Times' Fast 100 for the second year in a row, and recognition as one of the Best Places to Work in Western Pennsylvania.

"Nobody at GatesmanMarmionDrake wants to create just an ad agency, they want to build a results agency," said Kwasnick when asked what drew him to the South Side shop. "Advertising is easy. Results are hard. They don't come from having a lot of people. They come from having the right people, and that's what makes GatesmanMarmionDrake different."
