On Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12, hundreds of speed boats and thousands of spectators will embark on Lake Cumberland, lining the shores in eager anticipation as the renowned Poker Run 2009 occurs. Burnside Marina will be a major "player" in this year's world-famous event.

Our houseboats rent out quickly each year for this particular weekend, but right now we do have limited availability

With screaming spectators, revving engines, live music and helicopters overhead, it is hard to know where to look first. The annual Lake Cumberland Poker Run offers a $4000 first prize with a winning hand in this five-card poker game. Players pick up cards at each of five marinas, including Burnside Marina, as they speed around the lake course at up to 180 miles per hour. But it isn't the speed that wins the prize; it's the winning poker hand.

For spectators, any place along the course is sure to please. The best vantage point to watch the race is from the top of a houseboat anchored along the shore. Burnside Marina has houseboats available at special late summer rates. These deluxe, floating dream-vacation homes offer all the luxury accommodations a guest could imagine. From the flat screen TV to the roof-top hot tub, the interior surrounds you with a feeling of home away from home.

Burnside Marina will be handing out one of the five cards participants will need to win the coveted prize of the Poker Run. The race begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at State Dock, running the length of the lake and back again. The hands are collected, analyzed and prizes awarded Saturday evening.

Lake Cumberland is considered the House-boating Capital of the World and both Burnside Marina and Beaver Creek Resort, two of the 20 plus marinas owned by Marina's International, are known for these incredible houseboats. Prime views for the Poker Run weekend are limited to the number of floating vacation rentals available. Burnside Marina boasts a variety of sizes of houseboats, as does Beaver Creek Resort, making it possible for up to 12 guests to share expenses for the fun-filled weekend.

"Our houseboats rent out quickly each year for this particular weekend, but right now we do have limited availability," said Rita Short, Reservations manager for Marina's International in the Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lakes Region.
