Marzano Research Laboratory Offers New Online Master's Program for Teachers

Dr. Robert J. Marzano designs online master's course that builds skills and provides tools teachers can use to significantly increase student achievement.

Englewood, Colo. (PRWEB) August 12, 2009 -- Dr. Robert J. Marzano, researcher, author and CEO of Marzano Research Laboratory, has designed a master's degree that supports teachers in achieving significant student learning gains. Educators can enroll now for an online course that will earn them a Master of Science in Education with a major in the Art and Science of Teaching.

During this groundbreaking program of study, teachers acquire and implement the skills and tools revealed by research to increase student achievement. Program content is presented as a robust, easy-to-understand model of instruction. To earn the degree, teachers progress through nine courses within a supportive cohort of colleagues. Along the way, they monitor the progress of their students' learning gains as a result of implementing the research-based strategies they learn. Marzano's master's degree is offered in partnership by Marzano Research Laboratory, the National Institute for Professional Practice, and Wilkes University, which is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

"Dr. Marzano is a nationally known expert with 40 years of experience translating educational research into practical classroom strategies. He knows what works and what doesn't work, and he's dedicated his career to providing educators with techniques that allow them to measure success," said Michael Speziale, Ed.D., dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies and the School of Education at Wilkes University. "This course of study will help teachers adopt Marzano's research, which has proven results in boosting student achievement."

"I'm very pleased to work with Wilkes University and the Institute to design this degree based on my work," Marzano said. "The guiding principle of the program is whether students are learning what is being taught, not whether teachers are implementing the instructional strategies."

The Art and Science of Teaching master's degree is presented in a convenient, online format accessible from anywhere with Internet access. While degree candidates have deadlines to meet, there are no required login times.

Class sections of just five to 10 educators allow for lively, relevant online discussions rich with individual attention. Strategies learned in the course can be applied immediately in classrooms.

This 30-credit program requires teachers to document evidence of how implementation has produced gains in student achievement. It features printable articles with audio recordings, teaching and learning guides, exemplary videos and instructional tools.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 fall semester. Visit www.professionalpractice.org or call 888-235-6555 for more information.
