Customers can extend the access and application of advanced imagery to mobile workers

One of the biggest challenges companies face today is the ability to efficiently provide access to geospatial information in the field, where bandwidth and technology limitations impede the mobile user's ability to interact with large image files

TerraGo Technologies®, a leading provider of geospatial collaboration software solutions, announced today the general availability of its Publisher for Raster® version 5 software. The new solution not only gives users the ability to extend the access and application of their imagery assets, but also provides analysts new productivity tools that make it easier to generate large volumes of portable, actionable images via a geo-referenced PDF file (GeoPDF®) for greater geospatial collaboration capabilities.

"One of the biggest challenges companies face today is the ability to efficiently provide access to geospatial information in the field, where bandwidth and technology limitations impede the mobile user's ability to interact with large image files," said Chris Watson, VP of Marketing and Business Development for TerraGo Technologies. "By giving our customers a way to optimize and deliver complex images to mobile computers and handheld devices equipped with geospatial collaboration software, we are able to help them extend the access and application of their imagery investments to the edge of their enterprise."

Key enhancements available in the new Publisher for Raster solution include:

  • Geospatial Collaboration: Users are now able to generate GeoPDF files that inherently support geospatial collaboration. The new release enables field personnel to make geo-referenced annotations (GeoMarks) and share real-time updates more effectively with their peers in the field or with GIS analysts.
  • Custom Configurations: With enhancements such as the ability to more specifically configure GeoPDF file generation parameters, users can now more efficiently produce large volumes of GeoPDF files from raster data sources. In addition, users with multi-spectral imagery can choose one or many bands to be included in the GeoPDF and then can dynamically turn those bands on and off in any combination.
  • Greater Usability: Users have the ability to subset an area of interest within an original source image and publish the area to GeoPDF, giving them the power to quickly access the specific information required for the job at hand. Users can also preview a GeoPDF prior to publication. And since the GeoPDF image has been optimized for portability, it can easily be shared with mobile users leveraging the TerraGo Collaboration® suite of software.
  • Broader Compatibility: Users have the ability to generate GeoPDF files from a broader range of source coordinate systems with TerraGo's enhanced projection engine. In addition, users can output both OGC and ISO 32000 geo-enabled PDFs, while maintaining the robust capabilities of the TerraGo GeoPDF.

Publisher for Raster supports major file formats, such as ADRG, CADRG, CIB, IMG, MrSID, NITF, and TIFF. The GeoPDF output file supports a single image per input dataset, and the source image contained in the file is tiled and compressed using either JPEG or Flate compression. Depending on the data source, users typically see a 1 to 100 compression ratio while maintaining the image quality. When used in conjunction with TerraGo Composer, the TerraGo GeoPDF files can be used in creating comprehensive map books and other geospatial applications that integrate an organization's unique business context and workflow.

TerraGo's Publisher for Raster solution is currently being used by some of the world's largest image providers, including the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, United States Army Geospatial Center, United States Geological Survey, GeoEye, and 3001/Northrop Grumman. In addition, BAE Systems, I3 and ERDAS embed TerraGo's GeoPDF publication for raster capabilities within their respective solutions.
