Days after losing her husband to lung cancer on July 25, Erin Molloy learned Kevin's company, Molloy Interiors, Inc. earned top spots in a new industry ranking. The Florida drywall company placed number 1 in its category in SE Florida, and now Erin, 33, plans to continue the company as 100-percent female-owned. She wants to build on Kevin's hard work and provide for their two children, Parker, 5, and Kayman, 15 months and the company's 15 employees.

Kevin Molloy of Molloy Interiors, Inc. passed away at 39 years old on July 25, after battling lung cancer for almost two years.

On July 30, his widow and now full owner of his company, Erin Molloy, received notice that their interior construction company placed Number 1 in southeast Florida in an industry ranking of specialty contractors, conducted by Southeast Construction Magazine. The Lake Worth-based company also placed number 3 in the state of Florida and number 6 in the southeast U.S. for plastering/drywall contractors. The ninth annual ranking of specialty contractors is published in the August 2009 issue of the construction trade publication.

With 15 employees and a new project executive on board, Erin, 33, is planning to take advantage of potential stimulus-funded projects, the company's new status as being "100-percent female-owned," and the reputation built by six and a half years of Kevin's hard work and dedication.

"The team we have now stood by my husband and delivered on projects with their own expertise and talent, while he endured chemotherapy and radiation treatments," Erin Molloy said. "I am confident that the same level of work and professionalism they delivered with Kevin, they will deliver with me. The Southeast Construction magazine rankings are proof of that, and we are so proud of that distinction."

Currently, Molloy Interiors, which specializes in drywall subcontracting, is finishing up a $7.4 million multi-mixed use development of residential and retail at the corner of Woolbright Road and Federal Highway in Boynton Beach. Las Ventanas, which is owned and managed by Epoch Properties, was one of the largest projects undertaken by Molloy Interiors, Inc. and included interior and exterior work for two, five-story towers with garages, 408 apartment units, 66 retail units, 20 townhomes, a clubhouse, fitness center and pool cabanas.

According to Molloy Interiors Chief Estimator Luis Feliciano and Field Superintendent Chuck Brash, Las Ventanas required approximately 50,000 boards of drywall, 15,000 sheets of Dense glass gold, and thousands of feet of Tyvek and PermaWrap, used to waterproof all openings and hurricane-proof the buildings against future damage. The company began work on Las Ventanas in June 2008, just before Kevin Molloy was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma at JFK Medical Center.

"Kevin Molloy and Molly Interiors Inc. worked with Epoch Properties to create an outstanding property that will serve our residents for many years," said Bob Novell of EPOCH Properties, Inc. "The workmanship and attention to the details shows to everyone that visits Las Ventanas. We wish Molloy Interiors much success and look forward to the opportunity of working together in the future."

Other projects include work being done for Ed Morse Delray Toyota with Auto Builders, Braman BMW in West Palm Beach with Hedrick Brothers Construction and Braman Miami with Roepnack Corporation.

Erin, who has an art history degree from Florida State University, previously served as Marketing Director for The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach and head of her own marketing and event management company, EM2, before joining Kevin in managing the company. She also heads a household with two small children, her daughter Parker, 5 and her son, Kayman, 15 months.

"There's no reason to believe this company cannot be left to Kevin's children," Erin said. "Our corporate foundation is so strong, and I think the industry and economy will rise to meet us."
The Southeast Construction Magazine rankings are based on revenue generated during the preceding calendar year. The format of the ranking is based on regional revenue totals, meaning the volume of work collected in 2008 from projects located within the magazine's four-state territory of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
