Snippet Garden is the result of our own experiences over the past 12 years developing web applications. We wanted an online service that didn't exist - something that would allow us to store our best code examples, and provide collaboration, but for our team only. Like everyone else, we're reducing our onsite I/T infrastructure, so off the shelf software wasn't an option.

BrainJocks, a metro Atlanta based software application development shop, today announced the release of Snippet Garden, a software as a service (SaaS) for software development teams that provides a secure collaboration environment to record, teach and reuse their proprietary code. Companies use Snippet Garden to help them collaborate on code, a service specifically designed for the workflow and dynamics of software development teams.

Software development teams are challenged when sharing knowledge with the rest of their team. Snippet Garden gives the team a private forum to ask for help, answer inquires, store code knowledge and techniques while at the same time providing managers and team leaders with accountability standards for the team. As a hosted service, the application can be accessed from anywhere…sharing code with a team member across the room or on the other side of the world. A licensed version of Snippet Garden is also available.

BrainJocks found, over the last 12 years while developing software, that much knowledge was lost with turnover and contract developers. And teaching new hires was time consuming and difficult which impact the project's bottom line. Snippet Garden solves this problem. With a central library of code populated by the developers, everyone on the team can access and read about standardized patterns and practices, or lookup useful code segments that were used on previous projects. Social networking features, such as voting and comments, give larger teams the ability to keep the best and most relevant code easy to find and use.

According to BrainJocks founder and President, Brian Beckham, Snippet Garden was developed as a "grassroots" project. "Snippet Garden is the result of our own experiences over the past 12 years developing web applications. We wanted an online service that didn't exist - something that would allow us to store our best code examples, and provide collaboration, but for our team only. Like everyone else, we're reducing our onsite I/T infrastructure, so off the shelf software wasn't an option."
