There is no question that mobile data is doing well, despite the economy
San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) August 12, 2009
Far from feeling the bite of a fledgling economy, the mobile industry is flourishing, and attendees at Mobilize 09: The Future of the Mobile Web, to be held here Thursday, Sept. 10, will learn how to make the most of mobile investments, both now and in the coming months.
One of the most exciting aspects of the conference will be the emphasis on mobile data, which accounted for a whopping $45 million in 2008 - 194 percent of the amount in 2007.
Conference organizer GigaOM invited key individuals from the mobile industry - including C-level executives, investment strategists, marketing specialists, and technical experts - to weigh in on the topic.
Mobilize 09 will feature two keynote speakers: Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, Co-CEO of Motorola Inc. and CEO of Mobile Devices, who will present his first public address since joining the company; and Cole Brodman, CTO and Innovation Officer with T-Mobile. Leaders from more than 45 other top companies - including INQ, Qualcomm, HP, Intel, Cisco, Sony Ericsson, AT&T, Microsoft, and Dell - also appear in the lineup.
"There is no question that mobile data is doing well, despite the economy," says GigaOM Founder Om Malik. "But the real buzz - and a major theme for the conference - is that mobile data is going to take off astronomically as gigabit speeds are achieved. Further, the explosion of open platforms and hardware beyond traditional handsets will create new opportunities for entrepreneurs, investors, and consumers. We plan to highlight just where these opportunities exist."
Topics slated for discussion at Mobilize 09 include:
- Next-generation networks: Ultraband, UWB, Wi-MAX, LTE, 4G, broadband
- Application portals and application stores
- Design and ethnography: Usage, lifestyle trends, technology adoption
- Next-generation handsets: Design and technology
- Netbooks and ultraportables
- Mobile web enablers: Browsers, software, services
- Context and location-based services
- Nontraditional wireless devices: Machine-to-machine, gaming, e-books
- Mobile development platforms: iPhone, Symbian, Linux, BREW
- Next-generation chipsets
- Enterprise mobile applications
- Venture capital and economics of the mobile web
- Stealth startups and quickly growing ventures
