Dynacore™ Equipment Limited (Dynacore) announced today that GPRM Prestress, LLC (GPRM) will be taking delivery of Dynacore's latest generation hollow core concrete extrusion systems as part of major upgrades to GPRM's precast production facilities in Kapolei, Hawaii. GPRM will be installing Dynacore's PM20 power module, and EM150 and EM250 extrusion modules, to produce 6" (15 cm) and 10" (25 cm) pre-stressed hollow core slabs. These upgrades give GPRM greater production flexibility, operational efficiency, and lower operating costs. The new extrusion systems will be installed and ready for production by October 2009.
"The modular design of Dynacore systems and low maintenance costs were key to our decision," says Andy Boyd, sales manager at GPRM. "Since we can use the one power module with multiple extrusion modules, it proved more cost-effective than buying standalone systems. We will be introducing the 8" module shortly, and the Dynacore system gives us the flexibility to go up to a 16" section in the future. Hawaii is an expensive market to service because of location, labor costs, and we have to import all our equipment and parts, so it was important that Dynacore machines are designed to keep parts and maintenance costs to a minimum."
A Dynacore extrusion system consists of an extrusion module, which forms the hollow core slab, and a power module, which controls the extrusion process. The PM20 power module can be used with any size extrusion module, so producers manufacturing three sizes of hollow core can purchase a single PM20 and three extrusion modules, a 40% savings over the cost of three standalone extruders.
Another cost advantage of the Dynacore system is the replaceable auger end. One of the major expenses in hollow core production is auger replacement. Because the last 25% of any auger wears out faster than the rest of the auger, Dynacore has patented augers with replaceable ends. Rather than replace the entire auger every time, customers replace just the auger end, which is much cheaper than a complete auger and takes only thirty minutes to change out. On other equipment, the entire auger must be replaced, incurring a higher cost in both parts and production downtime.

"They took a total cost-of-ownership approach when comparing extruders, factoring in the cost of replacement parts, material use, and maintenance time.
