His extensive franchising experience includes personally negotiating and signing over 1,400 new units in China, South Korea, Kuwait, Qatar, Canada, Portugal, Pakistan, Russia, and 14 other countries. During his tenure with Papa John's, the company grew from approximately 1,500 units to over 3,400.

Proving its unwillingness to waver in the rocky economic climate, Huddle House, a 420-plus-unit Atlanta-based full-service family diner chain known for serving any meal, all day, has continued its forward momentum with its ever-evolving marketing campaigns and the strengthening of its growth strategy, by hiring long-time franchising veteran, Thomas Flaherty, to serve as its Chief Development Officer.

"The addition of Thomas Flaherty further strengthens our commitment to expand Huddle House into both untapped markets and fill-in territories," said Philip Greifeld, Huddle House's CEO. "His proven history in franchising will add leadership to our development team and pave the way for continued growth."

Prior to joining Huddle House, Flaherty spent 13 years deeply tied to Papa John's national and international growth, most recently serving as its Vice President, New Business Development, where he was charged with all U.S. growth. His previous positions with Papa John's included: Vice President of Global Business Development and Director of International Business Development.

As Huddle House's Chief Development Officer, Flaherty will be responsible for all development, including strategic market planning, franchisee recruitment, qualification and approval, real estate, construction, equipment, refranchising and transfers.

"The Huddle House team has done a tremendous job developing brand awareness and growing the concept throughout its 45-year history," Flaherty said. "However, the exciting thing is that there is still vast growth potential throughout the U.S."

Flaherty said he plans to build upon Huddle House's recent growth.

"As an established brand, we have experienced economic downturns in the past," Greifeld said. "This has prepared us for climates like this. Now, we are not only moving the brand forward, we are also deliberately building a foundation for more aggressive growth in the future."
