Increased prominence of industry has brought continuous expansion to global employment screening company

Today, it’s an essential part of the hiring process. The 9/11 terrorist attacks brought security to the forefront of every business.

Ten years after beginning with two employees and zero clients, EmployeeScreenIQ has become a global leader in employment background screening services with new, expanded business applications.

The company has entered its tenth year with over 2,500 client companies worldwide, and new applications that support applicant tracking, background checks, I-9 automation, substance abuse screening and new employee onboarding processes.

Since its inception in 1999, the company has experienced continuous business growth, including four consecutive years on the Weatherhead 100, a showcase of Northeast Ohio’s fastest growing companies. EmployeeScreenIQ was also included in Workforce Management magazine’s “Hot List of Employment Screeners” in 2008 and 2009.

“Ten years ago, background screening was still thought of by most businesses as a luxury,” explains Nick Fishman, chief marketing officer for EmployeeScreenIQ. “Today, it’s an essential part of the hiring process. The 9/11 terrorist attacks brought security to the forefront of every business.”

Along with increased prominence, the industry has also seen the evolution of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners, which reinforces the need for best practices, compliance, and self-regulation. Since business partners Les Fishman, Jason Morris and Nick Fishman founded the company, EIQ has gone from reselling basic criminal records to developing a sophisticated national network of 3,500 researchers and the ability to conduct background checks in over 200 countries.

Technology has advanced exponentially: EmployeeScreenIQ expanded its Web site in recent years with the addition of a sister site, http://university.employeescreen.com/, which offers articles, news, an industry blog, podcasts and other original media.

Legislation and government regulations have also affected the industry. Amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act have created an environment of better protections for consumers. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines are also influencing employers who make hiring decisions based on background checks.

“For ten years it’s been our mission to educate the marketplace and bring affordable best practices screening to companies and organizations,” said Jason Morris, President and CEO. “We’ve done this on a global scale and are flattered that our competitors have followed our lead.”
