Savvy trend spotters and those who invest in private companies know that the Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate

Inc. recently ranked GovDelivery No. 2024 on the annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy -- America's entrepreneurs.

GovDelivery, the world's leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions, works with more than 300 government entities, including over half of all federal agencies; state, county and city governments; and U.K. government entities. The company's Software as a Service platform enables government organizations to quickly and efficiently communicate with the public through email alerts, text messaging, RSS and social media channels.

Government agencies use GovDelivery to send more than 150 million emails and alerts each month to individuals who choose to receive official government information on topics of interest. Individuals can sign up to get up-to-date information on a variety of topics from various agencies, such as pandemic flu information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, notification of interest rate changes from the Federal Reserve Board, or route schedule changes from Bay Area Rapid Transit.

GovDelivery earned the spot on this year's Inc. 5000 with a 157.2% percent growth in sales from 2005 to 2008.

"Savvy trend spotters and those who invest in private companies know that the Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate," said Inc. 5000 project manager Jim Melloan. "That's why our list is so eagerly anticipated every year."

GovDelivery, which recently moved its corporate headquarters to support its growth, was also named one of the top 20 fastest-growing, privately held companies in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in
October 2008. It marked the third consecutive year GovDelivery was recognized.

"I am extremely proud to be recognized with such an impressive list of prominent brands featured on this year's Inc. 5000, said Scott Burns, CEO and co-founder of GovDelivery. "Our continuous growth has come from an increased awareness among public agencies that they must reach an expanding audience through multiple channels. Having one communication platform saves time and money, while reaching more people with official information. We are pleased to provide our clients with the ability to engage the public and keep them informed on a variety of topics and issues."

The 2009 Inc. 5,000 measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent -- not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies -- as of Dec. 31, 2008. The minimum revenue required for 2005 is $200,000; the minimum for 2008 is $2 million.

The 2009 Inc. 5000 list offers a preview of which industries are poised for growth in coming years. Government Services was the top industry gainer with 252 companies on this year's list, including GovDelivery, up from 135 last year.
