MathTutor Educational Software, Inc. today announced Release 4.0 of the MathTutor software series for Grades 6-12 math. This release features several enhancements. The first is an emphasis on real world scenarios and the use of math in everyday life within the software's tutorials and problem solving exercises. Another enhancement, targeted for schools, allows teachers to construct customized interactive courses from the MathTutor database of over 500 tutorials and practice modules. These enhancements, and others, have been implemented in the company's algebra tutorial software program and the 13 others that comprise the MathTutor series.

Research has shown that the use of real world examples and scenarios can increase student motivation and interest in many subjects, especially math. With Release 4.0, the MathTutor series has expanded its tutorials and problem solving exercises to incorporate real world applications drawn from many areas, including everyday life, the workplace and professions, and sports and games.

Curtis D. Blaine, Vice President of Development, said, "The MathTutor series features highly interactive tutorials that use compelling graphics and animation to enrich the learning experience. By introducing a wealth of real world examples, many students will see the relevance and importance of math in a new light."

Teachers have found the MathTutor series to be an invaluable resource to supplement classroom instruction. Release 4.0 gives teachers an additional benefit through its "Course Creation" feature. Teachers can construct customized interactive courses from the existing MathTutor database of tutorials and practice modules. For example, teachers can create custom courses for a tech prep curriculum, or for specialized courses that combine the teaching of algebra and geometry.

The MathTutor software series is a proven, curriculum-based family of software titles designed for students at all levels of ability. The series allows students to work at their own pace, building skills and confidence one step at a time. The enhancements introduced with Release 4.0 will further the series' effectiveness in helping students and adult learners succeed in math.
