Southwest Harbor, ME (PRWEB) August 20, 2009
Soya & Oilseed Summit 2009, the annual industry-leading conference from Soyatech, LLC, will feature an address by Blairo Maggi, governor of Mato Grosso State in Brazil and president of Grupo Andre Maggi. Governor Maggi will speak on the final day of the event, which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 3-5, 2009.
Governor Maggi's presentation, entitled "The Role of Brazilian Agriculture in Promoting Sustainability," will outline why sustainable agriculture is so important to Brazil and what current and future efforts will create positive changes in the industry. He will also discuss how sustainability initiatives can be effectively communicated to food, feed and biofuels companies and to consumers.
"Governor Maggi is uniquely positioned in the soybean industry," says Joe Jordan, Soyatech's Content Director, "We are excited to have the opportunity to host such an important figure in global agriculture, and we feel that his thoughts on the practical application of sustainability concepts are critical in the nascent atmosphere of environmental responsibility that is sweeping the industry."
Blairo Maggi has been the governor of Mato Grosso, a major soy-producing region of Brazil, since 2002; he is also president of Grupo Maggi, the diversified agriculture firm founded by his father, and is thus considered to be one of the world's largest soybean farmers.
"We feel that Governor Maggi will be a great addition to the Soya & Oilseed Summit program," says Marcelo Monteiro, executive director of the Mato Grosso Soybean Association, "Sustainable farming is a priority of his administration. By working with industry and environmental NGOs, he has launched a licensing system to reduce deforestation in the state and ensure that land is used for agriculture only under strict scientific guidelines. Governor Maggi will provide unique and interesting information to the conference attendees."
Sustainability will be a major focus of the Soya & Oilseed Summit 2009. In addition to the presentation by Governor Maggi, a Wednesday morning panel will include leading representatives from soybean, oilseed and palm oil production and transportation worldwide in a discussion of how environmental and financial sustainability may share vital priorities. Other program elements will consider the role for biofuels, emerging oilseeds, plant proteins and bio-based specialty chemicals in developing tools for a more sustainable world.
