NIC.MX (the organization responsible for .MX domain delegations) has announced that the Landrush period for second level .MX domain names will begin on September 1. The initial registration fee for domain names directly under .MX will be USD 1,000, and will decrease gradually until October 31.

(http://www.marcaria.com) NIC.MX (the organization responsible for .MX domain delegations) has announced that the Landrush period for second level .MX domain names will begin on September 1, 2009. Currently NIC.MX accepts the open registration of com.mx, .net.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx and .gob.mx domains but beginning September 1 NIC.MX will accept the open registration of .mx (i.e. domain.mx) as well.

Registrations will be granted on a first come, first serve method, with a decreasing price scheme. Beginning on September 1 the registration fee for domains directly under .MX will start at USD 1,000, and the price will decrease gradually in Dutch auction style until the end of Landrush stage on October 31 when the price could be as low as USD 35.

These announced fees correspond to the prices that will be charged by NIC.MX, but there will also be available to the general public different fees depending on the Accredited Registrar, and the service package chosen. For example registrar Marcaria.com will start with a price of USD 600.

The objective of NIC.MX's implementation a staggered price scheme is to secure availability and stability of .MX domain name services.

It is important to emphasize that NIC.MX has given priority to current third-level .MX domain holders (.com.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx, .net.mx, .gob.mx) by allowing them to register the .MX version of their third level domain in an earlier period of .MX delegations.

From November 1 on, the registration fee for first level .MX domains will be USD 50, pending any price changes in coming years.

Registration fees for .MX domain names at the third level (.com.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx, .net.mx, .gob.mx) will remain unchanged.
