The Players Directory newly launched eBook makes the casting director's job easier.

The Players Directory, published since 1937, is launching its new eBook (http://www.playersdirectory.com), an online version of the printed Directory. The eBook lets casting directors, producers, directors and studio executives peruse the book online, as if they were flipping through the printed Directory.

"This has been a long time coming," said Keith Gonzales, Directory Editor. "It is our unrelenting commitment to the industry to provide a tool to make casting as easy as possible for casting directors."

With the new eBook, the casting director will look at the Directory online, per category, with 10 photos per page. "If the casting director sees an actor they like," said Gonzales, "they just click on their photo and the actor's full online profile pops up." The casting director will see the actor's representation, resume, additional photos plus demo reel and clips, if available.

Casting is an intricate creative process. Not all roles are cast through a submission or through a standardized online name search. Casting directors don't always know exactly who or what they are looking for when filling a particular role. Flipping through the pages of the Players Directory, a resource with thousands of talented performers, allows casting directors to stimulate ideas in a way no other source can offer. This is why the Players Directory has been a valued resource for over seventy years.

Actors can be included in the new eBook by enrolling for the printed Directory. This gives exclusivity to the eBook. The actors in the printed Directory and eBook must be a member of an actors' union and/or represented by a SAG or ATA agency.

Dawn Steinberg, Executive Vice President of Talent and Casting at Sony Pictures TV, had this to say about the new eBook:

  •     "The new PD online eBook is amazing. It blends a timeless resource with state-of-the-art internet technology. Not all casting is done through submissions."
  •     "I encourage every actor who is serious about their career to get listed."
  •     "I am so excited about this; we will use it every day."
