"Like, So Totally 80's" Premieres at Live Arts/Fringe Festival

Take fourteen Philadelphia area high school students; add some shoulder pads, Members Only jackets, big hair, tickets to an A-Ha concert and what do you get? Well, for Philly Fringe Fest followers, the answer is "Like, So Totally 80's", ETC Theater's latest comedy. King of Prussia's ETC Theater is returning to the 2009 Fringe with a new play that will bring back old memories. LST80's was written by playwright, Todd Cardin and directed by his wife, Emily. The couple founded ETC in 2004 and has produced eleven original plays throughout Philadelphia, and its suburbs as well as New York.

The husband and wife team, teens themselves in the 80's, raided the high school theatre departments of area high schools and picked fourteen young actors to relive their glory days. These actors include both Cardin daughters; Esther, a senior at Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic, and Liz, a junior at Archbishop Carroll High School. While the script is loosely based on actual High School experiences from the 80's, many of the parts were written specifically for teens themselves. While many shows at this year's Philadelphia Live Arts and Fringe Festival offer social commentary, Like, So Totally 80's is just fun. Patterned more as a John Hughes film on stage, the teenage comedy is unlike the other entries in the 2009 Fest.

This year the Philadelphia Live Art's Festival will present almost twenty of the worlds most acclaimed and cutting edge artists. These performances will include nine world premieres and three North American premieres. These shows vary in size and scope, and are the hottest tickets in Philadelphia. While this year's Philly Fringe is expected to be another showcase of artistic freedom and expression. Philly Fringe is a totally unfiltered festival. Every fall new and established artists come together to present their work to the public. In the 2009 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, over 185 shows will be self-produced by artists from throughout the region.

The mission of the Philly Fringe is to provide an opportunity and a platform for Philadelphia-based artists to produce their work. ETC has participated in the Philly Fringe on several occasions, and has brought their largely suburban audience to the city to join this once a year event. "Like, So Totally 80s" is written by Todd Cardin and directed by Emily Cardin. This year's cast include Victoria Burdo, Elizabeth Cardin, Esther Cardin, Michael Coogan, Bryan Cortese, Emily Deller, DJ Deskins, Georgie, Anthony Morrione, Chris Ozorowski, Philip Poche', Mary Saunders, Jackie Van Loan and Stephen Wildemann.

Like, So Totally 80's is at the Shubin Theatre 407 Bainbridge St, Philadelphia and runs September 4th through September 11th.
