Parents are like gardeners, whose duty it is to nurture tender buds into full bloom.

But in today's frenzied world, parents can use some inspiration with spiritual guidelines for raising happy, respectful and resourceful children. Garden Haiku: Raising Your Child with Ancient Wisdom (published by iUniverse) offers sound parenting advice through the inspiring form of haiku poetry, focusing on the simplicity and wisdom in character-building principles have been extolled since ancient times but tend to get lost today. Award-winning author of "Baby Haiku: 3-Line Poems for New Parents," Lily Wang revives golden virtues with original poetic lucidity to bring Zen to parenting in this new book. These passages illustrate the parents' need for patience, a guiding hand, and of love in action:

Patience is to
Have no expectations
But greater acceptance

Children can devil or angel be-
Put your hands on their backs
So they can feel their wings

Within every child is a well-
Fill it with love,
So it will feed them for life

Wang also includes haikus for children, about her children and about nature. Non-parents alike will enjoy these messages with universal themes and principles.
