Moves up from Merit certification

Clean Harbors, the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial, and hazardous waste management services throughout North America, has received the "Star" designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for its Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF) here. This is a move up from the "Merit" designation earned in 2008.

VPP is a comprehensive health and safety process that requires employee involvement, management support, and cooperation with OSHA. Recipients demonstrate a strong management and employee safety culture that ensures a safe and healthful workplace environment, with occupational injury and illness incidence rates below the state and national averages for companies within the same industry classification.

The Clean Harbors Kimball operation is a storage and treatment facility for a variety of industrial waste utilizing a state-of-the-art thermal oxidation unit (incinerator) for maximum destruction efficiencies of hazardous waste. Environmental and occupational safety are of the highest priority throughout its operations.

Commented Jared Hunsaker, Clean Harbors Kimball General Manager, "VPP Star is another great accomplishment but we are most proud of the safety culture that VPP endorses. Thanks to our employees' efforts we work at one of the safest TSDFs in the country. Our safety practices protect employees and the community while assuring our customers that their waste is being handled in accordance with the highest OSHA standards."
