Deutsche Telekom spin off Zimory GmbH (http://www.zimory.com), an enabler of enterprise-class cloud computing, has named Dr. Gustavo Alonso as CTO. Alonso replaces Maximilian Ahrens who will become vice president of Products.
Alonso, a professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), brings extensive experience in databases, enterprise application integration, transaction processing, data replication, and middleware platforms. He joins Zimory to direct the expansion of Zimory's products towards data management and data access solutions.
"Any large organization, whether adopting cloud computing or using traditional platforms, faces serious challenges in terms of developing cost effective data management infrastructures," said Behrend Freese, CEO, Zimory GmbH. "Gustavo will lead Zimory's effort to add data management support within our existing products."
In addition to his academic role, Alonso has worked as an IT consultant for the financial industry. He was also a researcher at IBM Almaden - working in workflow management and transactional messaging -- before joining ETH Zürich in 1995, becoming a full professor in 2001.
"Zimory is at the forefront of profound technological changes," said Alonso. "The opportunity to bring its product one step further was just too exciting to give up."
Alonso has an engineering degree in telecommunications from the Madrid Technical University in Spain (1989); as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC Santa Barbara (1992 and 1994).
Zimory's Enterprise Cloud combines existing different virtual servers (currently Xen and VMware) into a homogeneous computing cloud - enabling data center managers to move applications quickly within a single or multiple locations.
Launched in January, Zimory Enterprise Cloud Management aggregates available server computing capacity and builds a self-service cloud environment for large organizations..
A spin-off of Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, Zimory enables an interoperable Infrastructure as a Service in one or many locations, Based in Berlin, the company develops a dynamic infrastructure solution for data centers to create a modern Adaptive Cloud Infrastructure -improving flexibility and reducing operating costs.
