The Prosser Group partners with Consolidated Edison Inc., Columbia University, CALM Energy, and others to develop and demonstrate a smart grid for New York City

The Prosser Group LLC. ( http://theprossergroup.com) announced today that it has partnered with Consolidated Edison, Inc., Columbia University, CALM Energy, and other energy experts in filing for smart grid stimulus funds from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Con Edison leads the team requesting approximately $46 million to help fund smart grid demonstration projects in New York and New Jersey.

New York City is the ideal test bed for the proliferation of Smart Grid technologies due to its economic, geographic, and environmental diversities. This demonstration will establish best practices in smart grid implementation under a wide range of circumstances that are directly scalable and applicable to other regions. "The Smart Grid will utilize information technology instead of redundant physical assets to improve or uphold reliability while adopting alternative sources of energy," according to The Prosser Group's CEO, Ron Prosser. "The key enablers are collaboration tools that drive situational awareness, rapid response, and distributed energy storage."
The Prosser Group is leading the following aspects of the proposed demonstration:

  •     Rules based intelligent decision aids and collaborative command systems for proactive grid operations and contingency response
  •     Distributed energy generation and storage management
  •     Urban electric vehicle charging infrastructure
