Jigsaw-puzzling is pursued by millions of people throughout the World but it is a UK couple who have pioneered the use of puzzle accessories to make jigsaws more enjoyable. They already have five inventions established in the marketplace and two more products are now ready for release.
Lisa and Colin King from the Lincolnshire Fens formed the Jigthings Company with the intention of "Making jigsaw puzzles more fun".
The story began five years ago when the founders (both self-confessed puzzle fanatics) launched their Jigsort puzzle case in W.H. Smith's. Jigsort is a set of boards and a case that packs away a part-completed jigsaw in seconds.
Close on the heels of Jigsort came their puzzle board (Jigboard) and nesting boxes for loose pieces (Jigsafe), both of which were designed to help during the jigsaw building stage. These ingenious products mean that you no longer have to monopolize a table to do a jigsaw and you no longer need to use every receptacle you can lay your hands on to keep the pieces together. As Lisa is keen to point out "They prevent jigsaw puzzles taking over your home".
Buoyed by their new found success, Lisa and Colin turned their attention to what happens to a jigsaw after it is made up and along came Jigframe (an ingenious puzzle frame) to hang it on a wall and Jigstore to retain it in its completed form.
The first of this year's new products, the Jigthings puzzle table, focuses on making jigsawing more comfortable, especially for elderly people. September sees the introduction of Jigmat of which Colin says "...it is a brand new concept and probably our simplest and best invention to date - what is really worrying is that it took us five years to think of it!"
Ask the Jigthings founders if the recession is harming their business and they say not a bit, business is booming.... the less disposable income people have the more likely they are to stay at home and enjoy simple, inexpensive pursuits like jigsaw puzzles. Ask if trade is weather dependent and they will tell you "Nice weather is good because our products appeal to caravaners, boaters and holidaymakers whilst rain is great because it keeps people inside to do their puzzles".
It seems there is nothing that will quell the enthusiasm of this very puzzling company.
All the products can be purchased direct from the website.
