Free Cataract Surgery for Eligible Queens and Long Island Residents

Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI) will participate in the Mission Cataract USA program, offering FREE outpatient cataract surgery throughout August and September to residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who are not covered by medical insurance and who are unable to pay for the surgery themselves.

Dr. Russell Fumuso, a founding partner of OCLI is one of several ophthalmologists in the practice donating his time and talents to Mission Cataract USA. A partner in OCLI, Dr. Fumuso will perform FREE surgery at the Island Eye Surgicenter to give the gift of sight back to those who have lost some or all of their vision because of cataracts. A resident of Garden City, Dr. Fumuso (http://ocli.net/physicians/ocli-fumuso-old.htm) is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery as well as comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Fumuso did his Ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, serving as Chief Resident in his senior year. Dr. Fumuso has served on the faculty at the State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine and is presently an attending physician in the department of Surgery, Ophthalmology at both Mercy Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. He is the recipient of the Physicians Recognition award from the American Medical Association, as well as certificates of achievement from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Fumuso is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

OCLI has performed charitable surgical procedures for many years with various local service organizations including The Lion's Eye Bank and The Sons of Italy. The procedures will be performed at no cost at the Island Eye Surgicenter in Carle Place.
