during my daughter, Daisy's two and a half years of treatment, we met children from all walks of life, and I witnessed first hand how emotionally and financially devastating caring for a child with cancer could be. I knew I had to help.

Having been accepted via the New York City Marathon lottery, and with her daughter Daisy as an inspiration, Julie at 45 years of age and a mother of five with no running experience behind her, has embarked on a grueling training program, 5 days a week to complete her mission.

Julie Healey, who founded the Be A Star Foundation after her daughter Daisy was diagnosed with leukemia in 2003, explains, "during my daughter, Daisy's two and a half years of treatment, we met children from all walks of life, and I witnessed first hand how emotionally and financially devastating caring for a child with cancer could be. I knew I had to help."

The Be A Star Foundation's ongoing support for the P.O.S.T (Pediatric Oncology Support Team) has been vital to the Team's mission of helping children and their families deal with the impact of diagnosis and treatment of cancer, by providing a complete range of free comprehensive service to pediatric oncology patients.

To date, the Be A Star Foundation's main fundraiser has been an annual gala hosted at the Healey home in North Palm Beach, which since its inception in 2004, has raised over $3,000,000 for children's cancer.

While Julie laughs at the notion of a mid-life crisis, she will on November 1st be one of 100,000 runners in New York City whose personal goal is to finish her first marathon while ensuring peace of mind and support to the local children suffering from cancer within a six county area including Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
