New Jersey's First Green Children's Health Expo on Sept. 12 and 13

Children and the Environment are the Focus of a Two-Day Green Expo in Newark. Saving Our Kids, Healing Our Planet will feature various workshops including: Going Green: What Does It Mean and How Will It Save Our Lives?; Making the Grade: Ways to Improve Attention and Academic Performance with Nutrition and Reduction of Toxic Load; Planting an Organic Garden in the Backyard or Rooftop; and Treatment and Prevention of Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD from a Biomedical Perspective. In addition to a display of interactive exhibits, nutrition experts will facilitate cooking demonstrations and provide free food samples.

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in collaboration with Newark Mayor Cory Booker invite the public to participate in Saving Our Kids, Healing Our Planet (SOKHOP) expo. SOKHOP is not just another Green Conference! This two- day event sponsored by New Jersey Medical School's Department of Pediatrics, the Autism Center, the Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the City of Newark is the first green children's health expo in New Jersey. SOKHOP is at the forefront of a new movement focused on sustainable living practices and it features over 25 top presenters in the fields of preventative pediatrics, nutrition and the environment.

Parents, teachers, therapists and physicians can learn about conventional and complementary therapies that are used to treat childhood medical illnesses. The expo will be held on Sat., Sept. 12, and Sun., Sept. 13, at the UMDNJ, Delta Dental Educational Conference Center, 50 12th Ave., Newark.

Saving Our Kids, Healing Our Planet Green Expo offers answers that are validated by rigorous scientific inquiry, yet presented in a format which is realistic and applicable for all of us struggling to keep our families healthy in these challenging economic times. This two day program includes: lectures on ways to prevent what some are calling the new childhood epidemics of Asthma, Allergies, Autism, ADHD, Obesity, Childhood Cancer etc, and ways to improve the symptoms associated with these conditions using more natural integrative approaches. As well as innovative and insightful information sessions on holistic prenatal and infant care.

SOKHOP is showcasing dozens of green exhibits, an interactive art mural, live music, storytelling, nature crafts, organic food, yoga demonstrations, affordable healthy cooking demos, displays on green building, solar energy, organic gardening and landscaping etc.

A main goal of this collaborative event is to make this cutting edge information accessible to all who wish to attend. With the help of our sponsors, it will be free for children under the age of 15 and all Newark residents with proper identification. General admission is only $15.00 per day for adults at the door.
