Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI) will participate in the Mission Cataract USA program, offering FREE outpatient cataract surgery throughout August and September to residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who are not covered by medical insurance and who are unable to pay for the surgery themselves. Dr. David Sachs is one of several ophthalmologists from OCLI who will donate his time and talents to Mission Cataract USA. Dr. Sachs will perform FREE surgery at the Island Eye Surgicenter to give the gift of sight back to those who have lost some or all of their vision because of cataracts. A resident of Commack, Dr. Sachs (http://ocli.net/physicians/ocli-sachs.htm) is an Ophthalmologist specializing in sutureless cataract surgery, LASIK, cornea transplant surgery, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Sachs received his medical degree, graduating in the top of his class from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his transitional year at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA and then ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center/Stony Brook University where he served as chief resident. Dr. Sachs remained on Long Island for a one year fellowship in Cornea and Refractive surgery. During his fellowship Dr. Sachs specialized in cataract surgery, multi focal intra-ocular lenses, cornea transplants, and the latest techniques in laser and refractive surgery. During his training Dr. Sachs was very active in ophthalmic research. He has also been involved in multiple prospective and experimental research trials. Dr. Sachs is currently a volunteer attending at Nassau University Medical Center where he helps train the ophthalmology residents.
OCLI has performed charitable surgical procedures for many years with various local service organizations including The Lion's Eye Bank and The Sons of Italy.
