The Season Is Getting Longer On Beautiful Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como in Italy has seen a massive rise in press exposure over recent years through its popularity with the rich and famous. George Clooney being the most productive in volume of printed words but many others have followed his lead. This has partly contributed to the increase in the number of visitors and has the extended the holiday season being seen this year.

The precise location of heaven on earth has never been established but it may very well be right here.

Luxury apartments, cheap air travel, more frequent short breaks and press exposure have revealed the hidden gem of Lake Como to more travellers in the past couple of years. Lake Como Homes Ltd ( founded 3 years ago, has grown into the leading accommodation provider on the Lake with over 200 holiday apartments, houses and villas in its portfolio, with reservations growing 100% year on year.

Sue Vaughton of Lake Como Homes believes that this trend will continue as the Lake has been under marketed for years and has remained a secret location for the returning mainland Europeans, the UK "Grand Tour" couples and once in a lifetime overseas visitors. Not that this increase in visitors will spoil the area as Lake Como does not really cater for the traditional package holiday, the young set or those with children who just want the beach.

Travel and property have long been close bedfellows in Europe and Lake Como is no exception. Going through one of its periodic building phases the opportunity for foreigners to buy new luxury accommodation has increased particularly around Varenna and Menaggio, which together with Bellagio, form the "Golden Triangle".

Lake Como's contours and strict building controls, limit the building volume and this combined with Italy's more reserved approach to mortgages has meant that property has not been subject to the credit squeeze. The increase in visitors however has meant more opportunity to benefit from increased rental returns with less risk of a property downturn.

The increase in exposure from the press, combined with cheap flights from European destinations, fast auto routes from mainland Europe, and great buy to let rental properties, has seen an explosion in interest on Lake Como. In addition, Lake Como is only and hour by car from the International airports of Bergamo or Milan Malpensa and is the same distance to some great ski resorts such as Madesimo, St. Moritz, Livigno and Bormio. Switzerland is only a few miles across the border and Lugano, a rich Ticino city, is the next major town, heading West over the pass from Menaggio.

Out of season Lake Como is magical with snow capped mountains, crisp clear days and is a place of calm and serenity. There are some downsides of course, there are less restaurants to sample and outdoor lidos are closed between October and May, but this a small price to pay for such splendour.

As quoted by Herb Caen "The precise location of heaven on earth has never been established but it may very well be right here."

Lake Como Homes is still taking bookings for 2009 and many visitors are already returning for 2010. With visitors travelling from the four corners of the globe, as far afield as Oman & Australia; the future looks bright for Lake Como. More properties are needed in certain locations however and interested owners are asked to call the company for an informal chat.

Lake Como Homes Ltd works in association with Happy Holiday Homes and Lake Como Dream Investments, both in Menaggio, to provide the complete investment and holiday package for owners and visitors alike.
