Following recent reports on a leaked NHS circular, which warns that an extra 4.600 medical professionals will be needed in London during the 2012 Olympics, a Team24 spokesperson described the expected shortage as a "huge opportunity for the healthcare recruitment market".

Talking about the shortage, Robert Stiff, Managing Director of Team24 commented, "At Team24, we constantly tailor our strategy according to needs in the healthcare market; while serving the best interests of our candidates. The London Olympics, in 2012, represents a challenge for healthcare providers in the UK, and is an ideal opportunity for recruiters to step in".

Team24 has announced an Olympics strategy for dealing with NHS staff shortages: Robert explains: "Our plan is to begin attracting nurses early, and work on retaining them in the longer term, prior to 2012. This will include offering rewards such as performance and loyalty bonuses and even accomodation where it is perceived to be an issue".

Reports suggest that hospitals and GP surgeries could both be hit with staff shortages, as their medical professionals are given leave to attend the many extra surgeries created by the Olympics - whilst at the same time it is expected that 1m extra visitors will arrive into the country to attend the month long event.

It's also suggested that absenteism could be at a higher level during the period, among healthcare professionals, due to the summer holidays and Ramadan, and a huge extra demand on ambulance and emergency units is predicted.

Team24, which has offices in London and the South East, grew to £13m turnover in 2008 after only 3 years in business, and anticipates a £28m turnover in 2009. "We currently place in excess of 700 doctors and nurses a week. And expect to be placing 1,000-plus doctors and nurses a week by the end of this year" Robert explains "Since our formation in 2005, we have built our business on our reputation to respond quickly to our client needs and supply the highest quality staff".

"We have strong relationships, and good communication with all our clients and candidates: There is no doubt that high quality customer service has strengthened our company brand, and reputation, and has led to repeat business and the continued growth of the company. And as for the 2012 Olympics: where the NHS has gaps - we will fill them".
