What FiledBy has developed is unique and truly needed in the publishing industry today
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) September 9, 2009
Cambridge University Press and FiledBy are partnering to provide over 100 Cambridge authors with websites on the FiledBy marketing platform. Cambridge is the world's largest and most prestigious university publisher with a program that encompasses virtually every academic discipline, including science, technology & medicine, humanities, social sciences, reference and general interest books, journals and electronic products.
The companies started working together before the FiledBy platform launched in the spring of 2009. A pilot program was designed to register 50 Cambridge authors on FiledBy and provide them with powerful premium web tools. Given the success of the pilot program, Cambridge elected to expand with an additional 65 author sites in August. Since FiledBy websites are pre-assembled and all published authors and their books are represented, the sites are easy for an author to claim and enhance with photo, biography, videos, documents, podcasts and links. FiledBy makes it affordable and easy for authors at all levels to establish an effective web presence without the need to build out custom websites.
"What FiledBy has developed is unique and truly needed in the publishing industry today," said Liza Murphy, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Cambridge University Press. "FiledBy sites are easily claimed by authors and expandable so a basic site can become a multi-media experience created by authors that includes their books, videos links, podcasts, blogging capabilities, buy buttons and other tools authors need to promote themselves online and sell books. For Cambridge, FiledBy represents an easy-to-use, low cost online platform that we know will support our authors' needs. Since our authors are busy academic and professional writers, we need tools that demystify marketing on the web and are easy for the author and the publisher to use. FiledBy has put it all together under one virtual roof."
Some of the Cambridge University Press authors now on FiledBy include:
- Bjorn Lomborg, author of Global Crises, Global Solution
- Christopher S. Mackay, author of The Hammer of Witches
- Stephen H. Norwood, author of The Third Reich in the Ivory Tower
- Carol M. Swain, author of Debating Immigration
- Kristin J. Anderson, author of Benign Bigotry
- Brian Balogh, author of A Government Out of Sight
"We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Cambridge University Press," said Peter Clifton, president and CEO of FiledBy. "Liza Murphy saw the value of FiledBy early on, and the value proposition has delivered cost savings and results at a time when marketing budgets are tighter than ever before. Rather than building individual author websites, publishers can now set up a site on FiledBy quickly and for a fraction of the cost, while getting more mileage from the community effect and scalability associated with FiledBy. Cambridge University Press is a great partner, and we look forward to adding many more of their authors in the future."
FiledBy is the largest online directory of author sites providing web tools, e-commerce and community-building solutions for published book authors and contributors -- co-authors, illustrators, photographers, artists, translators and editors. FiledBy provides authors and readers with social tools to connect with each other and includes more than 3 million pre-assembled author and contributor websites and 8 million book pages that can be discovered through a single database.
