Seeing audience numbers increase confirms that communities on Wikia are creating the most compelling content on every topic under the sun. It's amazing and we want to do whatever we can to help them

In the first half of 2009, Wikia, Inc.'s (http://www.wikia.com/) expanding audience of deeply engaged fans showed triple digit growth from 2.8 million to 6.5 million unique visitors in the U.S, according to marketing research firm Comscore. This growth allowed Wikia to achieve profitability a year early and to further expand its engineering, sales and community teams.
Wikia's growth is the result of the company's ongoing commitment to its communities to make wikis easier to start, simpler to edit and more fun to use as they pursue their individual interests with others. As more writers, editors and readers become involved in Wikia and spend longer periods of time participating on the wikis, the content grows richer, attracting a broader audience. Today there are over 50,000 topics with almost three million pages of rich, well-organized information that engage readers for hours at a time.
A second factor in Wikia's rapid growth is its new custom sponsorships for brand marketers. Media agencies are enlisting Wikia to provide innovative, customized programs to reach members of the wiki communities. As people flock to Wikia to share and enjoy content, brand marketers are reaching engaged audiences by targeting their key topics and interests.
"Seeing audience numbers increase confirms that communities on Wikia are creating the most compelling content on every topic under the sun. It's amazing and we want to do whatever we can to help them," said Gil Penchina, CEO of Wikia. "Brand marketers also see value in these broad and committed fan bases, so we've created a flexible platform to allow both wiki communities and premium brands to engage with each other in ways that are mutually beneficial. Our mantra is to support Wikia's communities to build traditional media that they love and which audiences are loyal to, while engaging marketers to provide useful and compelling information that targets our content and will be welcomed by the community."
Wikia's July 2009 Comscore numbers reflect an increase of more than 20% from June 2009 and over 100% from July 2008. To continue to support its communities, Wikia currently has several job openings at http://www.wikia.com/wiki/hiring
