Free Cataract Surgery for Eligible Queens and Long Island Residents

Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI) will participate in the Mission Cataract USA program, offering FREE outpatient cataract surgery throughout August and September to residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who are not covered by medical insurance and who are unable to pay for the surgery themselves. Dr. Richard Sturm is one of several ophthalmologists from OCLI who will donate his time and talents to Mission Cataract USA. A partner in OCLI, Dr. Sturm will perform free surgery at the Island Eye Surgicenter to give the gift of sight back to those who have lost some or all of their vision because of cataracts. A resident of Rockville Centre, Dr. Sturm (http://ocli.net/physicians/ocli-sturm-old.htm) is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Dr. Sturm completed his ophthalmology residency at St. Luke's / Roosevelt Hospital Center, where he served as chief resident. He obtained a fellowship in glaucoma at the Glaucoma Consultation Service Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. Sturm has also served as clinical instructor and director of glaucoma service at St. Luke's / Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Sturm is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Nassau Academy Medicine and the Nassau Surgical Society. He is also a member of several professional societies including the Long Island Ophthalmological Society and the Medical Society for the State New York.

OCLI has performed charitable surgical procedures for many years with various local service organizations including The Lion's Eye Bank and The Sons of Italy. The procedures will be performed at no cost at the Island Eye Surgicenter, in Carle Place.
