Leadership Training For Corporate Staffing and Recruiting Professionals Seeks to Fill Educational Void and Address Tough Times

During these tough economic times, staffing departments are being asked to do more with less and be accountable for every dollar spent

The Strategic Talent Acquisition Roundtable (STARoundtable) today announced its 2009 Corporate Recruiting & Staffing Leadership Academy. This fall, staffing and recruiting professionals seeking to improve their leadership skills will have one opportunity to participate in the third season, of highly specialized educational workshops at one of the nation’s top-tier university business schools. This year’s academy session will be held in Chicago:

Corporate Recruiting & Staffing Leadership Academy
Chicago: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 - University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, Gleacher Center (Downtown Chicago)
8-8:30 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. with a free STARnetwork session beginning at 3:30PM until 5:30PM

During this intensive workshop recruiting and staffing professionals will learn and discuss such critical topics as: best practices for organizing, managing, motivating, measuring and leading a recruiting and staffing team; metrics executives and hiring managers care about the most and how to interpret and implement them; how to translate data from workforce planning into staffing strategies; and learning how to build a consultative recruiting culture.

The Leadership Academy will be co-lead by three principals from Riviera Advisors, a premier global human resource consulting firm. With a combined 50-plus years of real-world experience, that involves leading and managing corporate recruiting functions, these uniquely qualified experts will share their own successes and failures, while also providing proven solutions for today’s recruiting leaders.
“There is a serious gap in professional development opportunities for professionals who will be asked to lead or are already leading staffing and recruiting functions at their organizations,” said Jeremy Eskenazi, principal of Riviera Advisors.

“There is a lot of training to teach recruiters how to become better at recruiting, but there is a significant educational void for professionals seeking to become leaders. The STARoundtable Academy are an important professional development resource that can significantly fill that void and provide for a great resource in tough times.”

“During these tough economic times, staffing departments are being asked to do more with less and be accountable for every dollar spent,” said Eskenazi. “That’s why this one-day, intensive workshop focuses on cutting-edge strategies for staffing leaders to transform their recruitment function into a consultative recruiting culture.”

To respect the tough economic times, and to further facilitate problem-solving and the free flow of ideas and solutions, STARoundtable will host a free STARnetwork event for academy attendees and non-attendees. Sponsored by and ASHER Talent Alliance and hosted by STARoundtable leader Mary Claire Ryan, the event will feature facilitated roundtables on current Staffing and Recruiting topics as well as informal networking opportunities for HR professionals.

Denyse Pashup, Sr. Corporate Recruiter for Solo Cup Company and a STARoundtable Leadership Academy 2008 alumna, describes the academy as “a true professional continuing education experience worth every dollar! I learned something useful in every module. I’m anxious to get back and use some of these new tools.”

With case studies and examples from real-life staffing functions, academy participants will discover best practices for not only organizing, managing and motivating their recruiting and staffing teams, but also how to gather, interpret and utilize meaningful metrics. In addition, they’ll learn how to implement workforce planning and turn key data into workable staffing strategies. According to Jennifer Calder, Sr. Staffing Manager at The Home Depot, and a participant at the 2008 STARoundtable program, the academy workshop is “relevant, current and practical. And I loved hearing what other people are doing.”

In 2009, the tuition for participation, which includes breakfast and lunch, which was lowered from previous years is $795 per person with many discounts available to bring the price down even further to only $595 (available online for early registration).

Space at each Academy is limited. To register for a STARoundtable Recruiting and Staffing Leadership Academy or for the FREE STARnetwork reception or for more information, please visit or call toll free (877) 201-STAR.
