I was so impressed with Zach when I met him that I just knew we should help him

Local pet pantry, created by a 9-year-old boy scout named Zach, will be the beneficiary of the first annual PetPalooza event being held Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Avalon Park.

After a visit to a local shelter to adopt another pet, young Zach recognized a need in the local community. "Mom, we need to feed the animals," he said as he left the shelter. Due to the impact of the economy on the local residents, shelters have seen an increase in the amount of pets that families have had to give up because they could no longer afford to feed them. Zach created the Animal Pantry so families could keep their pets.

"I was so impressed with Zach when I met him that I just knew we should help him," said Kevin Casey, owner of the Central Florida Pets Directory. "It just made such perfect since for us to combine the resources we have with the directory and meld them into an event for the community to enjoy, contribute to the cause, and benefit other members of the community trying to keep their four-legged family members."

The event will begin at 10 am on Saturday, October 10 in Downtown Avalon Park. There will be various vendors from dog trainers to restaurants and costume contests for pets and kids. Entertainment will be taking place on the stage and will include Jeff Howell, Orlando's blues-rock star, Joseph Constantine who recently appeared on America's Got Talent as an Illusionist and others.

"We are thrilled to have partnered with the Pets Directory to collaborate on this event," said Erica Wilson, Zach's mom. "We are looking forward to being able to help more Central Florida families who have fallen on hard times and will be able to do so because of this event."

Donations of pet food, pet supplies, and money will be accepted at the event. A raffle will also be held with the proceeds of the raffle benefiting the Animal Pantry.

The Central Florida Animal Pantry was created in April, 2009. People who need food or supplies for their pet can go to the pantry, located at 7800 South US Hwy 192, Suite 174, Fern Park, FL, 32730. For hours and information go to http://www.animalpantry.org.
