The Administration and Staff of St. Mark the Evangelist firmly believe that every child should have access to the benefits of a Catholic education, regardless of family income.

St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic School in Hyattsville MD inaugurated the new Adopt-A-Student Program for the St Mark’s Community. The program is focused on raising money to develop and maintain a scholarship program for students in St. Mark’s catholic school.

The program, the Adopt-A-Student program, will be run through the St. Mark’s Catholic Church. It is aimed at providing tuition grants for needy children in the St. Mark’s community so all students can have the opportunity to benefit from the educational program at St. Mark’s School.

The Pastor of St. Mark's Church, Father John Dillon, stated that “The Administration and Staff of St. Mark the Evangelist firmly believe that every child should have access to the benefits of a Catholic education, regardless of family income.”

Principal Charles M. Russell added, “During these difficult economic times we must all band together in support of the children in our community. This program will allow alumni, parents, community members and friends of St. Mark’s School to come together and help the neediest children.” The benefits of an education at an institution like St. Marks are clear. 98 percent of graduating classes over the past 5 years have been accepted by the top Catholic High Schools in the Washington DC region and 90 percent of those students go on to attend 4 year college programs. When compared to the Prince Georges County average high school graduation rate of 57 percent, the advantages of a Catholic education, like the one received at St. Mark’s, can make the difference.

The Program has several levels of giving. Donators can sponsor a child for one day to an entire school year, or they could agree to cover the costs of books and activities for the student. The suggested donation levels are as follows:

Day    $30.50
Week $152.50
Month $610.00
Quarter $1525.00
Semester $3050.00
Full year $6100.00
Book & activity fee $400.00
