Federico Beauty Institute students participated in a cooking demonstration and presentation with Top Chef Season 4 contestant Ryan Scott on September 2nd. Chef Ryan Scott visited the beauty school to unveil a new healthy turkey burger recipe that will be featured on the Federico Café menu, and to talk to students about pursuing a career they are passionate about.
Chef Ryan Scott drew parallels between a cooking career and a career in the beauty industry as he spoke to a room full of Federico students. He explained that both careers involve being creative and working hard to get to the top. Both chefs and beauty professionals attend specialized schools and continue to learn and train throughout their careers. The culinary and beauty industries are both very competitive, and Scott encouraged students to work hard to accomplish their dreams.
Scott spent a year travelling the country, training with professional chefs in different restaurants, to hone his skills. He recommended that Federico students try to also find internships and jobs in salons where they will be able to watch and learn from the best in the industry.
The recipe that Scott demonstrated for students will now become a special menu item at the in-school Federico Café. He showed students how to make turkey sliders with Asian pear slaw. The recipe is a healthy alternative to fast-food burgers and fries.
Scott also has a family connection to Federico Beauty Institute. His stepsister is currently a student at the school. She and her classmates were delighted to have the opportunity to see Scott in action, and very excited about the presentation.
The cooking demonstration was filmed live by Good Day Sacramento, a local morning television show.
