Architect Anthony Eckelberry has completed a new hillside residence with commanding views of the Crescenta Valley and the mountains beyond. The home takes design inspiration from the work of mid-century architects with an open floor plan and windows incorporated into the corners of the major rooms.
Some of Anthony's residential design work with his company Architectural Design Studio, Inc. can be seen on the website, http://www.eckelberry.biz
The contemporary feel of the design is complemented by wood detailing throughout. The home features hardwood floors, wood doors and mitered windows at corners of several of the rooms. The home design is incorporated into a native garden on the 16,000 square foot property. Large roof overhangs protect against excessive sunlight; "Up here, you are exposed to light in unexpected ways," observes the owner, "the architect shifted the house slightly off the east-west axis, so in the summer you are shaded in the way you want to be."
The design achieves a balance between the interior spaces and the landscape that surrounds it. The owner of the home says: "I enjoy this house mainly because of its unique location and spectacular beauty. It has been our pride and joy to live here and to entertain family and friends who, once they conquer the up hills, don't seem to want to leave it regardless of the time of day or season."
