Representatives of the Dominican Republic Consulate General and The Ministry of Tourism in the West Coast announced today their collaboration with the Los Angeles Dodgers to make the "My Town Dominican Republic" day a celebration of Dominican baseball legend Manny Mota's 40th anniversary with the LA Dodgers and his contribution to the game of baseball. The event is set for September16, 2009 at 12:10 p.m., leading into the Dodgers vs. Pirates game.
Best known for his pinch-hitting abilities, Manny Mota joined the LA Dodgers in 1969 and continues to be one of the most popular Dodgers, both in Southern California and his native Dominican Republic. In 2009, Mota entered his 30th season as a coach with the Dodgers.
In addition to celebrating Manny's 40 years with the LA Dodgers, the right field section reserve level will be designated "My Town Dominican Republic," where fans can enjoy an all-inclusive Dominican menu, native Dominican music and take home a limited edition "My Town" t-shirt displaying the colors of the Dominican flag.
Other highlights of the celebration of Manny Mota and all "things Dominican" include Manny taking the field along with members of his family, Los Angeles Dodgers executives, representatives of the Dominican Republic, as well as other Dominican players, to receive a special video tribute showcasing Mota's career. Dominican Consul General Celeste Jimenez will recognize Manny's career and achievements with the LA Dodgers on behalf of the Dominican Republic.
As a bonus, the first 50,000 fans in attendance at the Dominican themed-game, Dodgers vs. Pirates, will receive a Manny Ramirez bobblehead. During his comeback workouts, Ramirez trained with legendary coach Manny Mota at the Dodgers' facilities.
