If you thought Christian worship was all about church organs and tambourines, think again. Just 18 months after it was founded, Worship The Rock - an online community made up of the latest generation of Christian worship leaders from around the world - is celebrating breaking the 5000 member mark. In what can only be described as fellowship for the Facebook generation, Worship The Rock replaces cheesy renditions of kum-by-ah with recordings of uplifting original songs and online forums on everything from PA techniques and guitar effects to the intriguing entitled "Top 10 Worship Leader Myths".
Site founder Phil Williams set up Worship The Rock in 2008 to help worship leaders share practical tips and spiritual insights, but soon found that there was scope for much more. In addition to providing the opportunity for budding composers to post their creations online, discuss theological issues and get feedback from other modern day psalmists, Worship The Rock recently launched a worship leader jobs board, with free worship-related employment listings presenting the opportunity for members to make a vocation out of their heart's desire.
However, the site's membership is not exclusively made up of aspiring worship leaders, Worship The Rock already counts well-known names and recording artists amongst its ranks. These include Russell Fragar, known for writing songs such as "And That My Soul Knows Very Well", "Friends in High Places" and "Love You So Much" (and ex-pianist and songwriter from world renowned worship Church Hillsong in Australia); Rick Heil, from popular Christian rock bank Sonic Flood; and Scott Wesley Brown - who has worked with a wide range of musicians from Pat Boone to Placido Domingo!
Worship The Rock
Launched in April 2008 by Phil Williams, Worship The Rock took just 18 months to break the 5000 member mark and is already well on its way to the next milestone. With members from countries as far apart as South Africa and Singapore; Australia and America, it is something of a social networking pioneer in Christian circles. Worship The Rock contains 1000 videos and 6000 photos posted by an active community that are keen to participate in the site's blogs and forums. Contact Phil on +44 (0) 7787501986.
