FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising has developed many incredible partnerships over its forty years educating students for careers in the Fashion, Interior Design, and Entertainment industries. Collaborating with global companies like Mattel, Disney, and Cotton Inc. is mutually beneficial as it helps insure that the college's curriculum is always evolving in step with the industries it serves. Throughout their educational journey, FIDM students benefit by working directly with leading companies from nearly every creative industry, including, but not limited to, Macy's Inc., Vespa, Crate & Barrel, Fender Guitars, and Lionsgate Films.
Industry heavy-hitter Mattel's recent celebration honoring Barbie's 50th Anniversary presented a unique opportunity for students of FIDM's Advanced Study Program in Fashion Design. Offered the exclusive rights to design a life-size Barbie-inspired fashion line, FIDM's best and brightest were entrusted with a signature element of the iconic doll's milestone celebration. The collection was unveiled on the catwalk as part of FIDM's DEBUT 2009 Runway Show and Gala.
Other companies acknowledge FIDM's commitment to educational excellence through the sponsorship of generous scholarships. Cotton Inc. has invested $30,000 annually to offer select students the opportunity to pursue their dreams at FIDM, a particular help to students during these challenging economic times.
In yet another sign of FIDM's impressive industry reputation, the producers of the Emmy-nominated series Project Runway chose FIDM's state-of-the-industry flagship campus in sunny Los Angeles as their West Coast home. Debuting August 20th on Lifetime, the new season of the hit series launched with its highest ratings ever. This season features FIDM's eighth graduate to appear on the series, Johnny Sakalis. He follows in the footsteps of such legendary graduates as Nick Verreos of Project Runway Season 2 and winner Leanne Marshall of Project Runway Season 5.
In addition to the special partnerships mentioned, FIDM works closely with these and numerous other companies to build a powerful Career Development network that takes a student from in-school internships to full-time careers in their chosen field. Employers post over 17,000 jobs a year on FIDM's Alumni Job Search site, while events like FIDM's annual Career Connections bring students face-to-face with FIDM alumni in their field of choice and allows them an unparalleled opportunity to establish invaluable network connections. Students can also look forward to attending FIDM's exciting job fairs featuring representatives from across the creative spectrum. A recent job fair produced 22 on-the-spot job offers among a group of motivated students who turned out to meet 55 companies, including Saks Fifth Avenue, American Apparel, and Juicy Couture.
