We've all seen Barbie and Bratz explode onto the highly competitive tween market. Now there's a new addition to the fray: Genies!
Written by Olivia C. Grosser, Genies is designed to capture the hearts and imaginations of 9 to 12 year olds. The latest budding icon and Christmas stocking must-have, the much-anticipated first book in the series launches exclusively at amazon.com on October 1.
Retailing for $15.95, lucky recipients of the book so far include the children of celebrities: Reese Witherspoon, Katie Holmes, Courtney Cox Arquette, Jennie Garth, Kelly Preston, Christine Taylor, Denise Richards, Luciana Barroso and Faith Hill.
The main attraction for young girls, it seems, is that the book encourages readers to live out their fantasies. In the case of protagonist Orchid Bloom, she is an ordinary girl, until she uncovers a secret that has been hidden from her for eleven years. She's really a genie. Sent away to the North Pole, she learns how to behave like one; casting spells and creating improbable dilemmas, until one day, she learns the legend of the Wishing Stone. A stone so precious and powerful that the Wicked Jinn will go to great lengths to find it. Unbeknownst to her however, Orchid has the stone in her possession, thus setting in motion a series of events that puts the fate of The Wishing World in one genie's hands.
