Pearson's Book Expert Independent Reading Libraries was judged a top classroom pick in the 16th Annual Learning Magazine Teachers' Choice Awards.

The awards "honor products of exceptional quality and outstanding performance in the classroom and at home." Teacher teams from across the U.S. judged the entries.

The Book Expert Independent Reading Libraries offer students in grades K-5 a variety of fiction and non-fiction books at a wide range of reading levels. They are conveniently organized by grade, DRA stages - Emergent, Early, Transitional, Extending - and DRA levels A through 60. Teachers can choose the library that best suits their classroom. The Teacher Resource Guide makes suggestions on how students can find the "just right" book for them.

The Book Expert Independent Reading Libraries and other award winners will be featured in Learning Magazine's January 2010 issue, and on their website for a year, beginning in January.

"This is a tremendous honor for Pearson, particularly as the awards are judged by teachers from throughout the country who actually use the materials," said Terry Fabrizi, Vice President, Literacy Product Management, Pearson. "Research shows that independent reading significantly affects reading growth and achievement, and the Book Expert Independent Reading Libraries provide a wide range of books to meet each student's interest and reading needs."

"Teachers value Pearson for their useful and innovative products," said Anne Sumpter, publisher, Learning Magazine. "Our teacher-evaluators enjoyed reviewing Book Expert Independent Reading Libraries and rated it highly based on its effectiveness in their classrooms."
