Dana Outlaws website http://www.danaoutlaw.com explains important issues in New Bern as well as links to local press coverage. Dana's platform includes the following:
A discussion of his past voting record and how he has been a member of the Board of Alderman for all citizens of New Bern.
Mr. Outlaw has a concern for the continued state and federal requirements and the impact these will have on the financial position of the city which directly affects you. Many important decisions will be made in the next term including ones generations(s) will have to live with. The top 5 Platform issues of Mr. Outlaw are:
"I am embarrassed as an elected official for the band aid approach to sewer the city has in the James City area. I pledge to continue to vote no to understudied, rapid decisions the city makes on items like this which need total half day workshops with no other items for discussion for proper focus."
Present Financial Condition
"The City of New Bern will see resident's water rates increase from 40% to 60% in the next three years. I pledge to the citizens of New Bern to continue to review, research, evaluate, and then vote on issues with your best interest in mind."
"The city has seen fit to spend in my estimation $200,000 for the future per year on new bridge maintenance that the state should be spending. The city has seen fit to spend in my estimation $200,000 on the yearly upkeep and payroll of a city aquatic center. I have worked hard in the past four years with the help of property owners throughout New Bern to address these issues and pledge my support to city residents to continue to work for a more efficient drainage program for the city."
"For the past four years based on my past memberships on several state boards, I feel that the City of New Bern could "open the doors" to government in New Bern by the installation of a Internet system of open government that is used by over 20 state of the art cities in North Carolina. I would like HPC, Board of Adjustment, Zoning Board, and other misc. public works, fire, police programs installed on this 24 hour system in addition to board activity."
"As your Alderman for the 6th ward my voting record will indicate the majority of times my voting against an electric rate increase. I am in favor and have for the past 4 years attempted to give the Electric Advisory Board broader powers in order to assist the City of New Bern much the same way our present Zoning Board, Board of Adjustments."
Final thoughts, growth considerations
"The city will continue to experience growth and the Board must decide a more concise means of payment for services both monthly and long term infrastructure. Past policy of the city has been to put the majority of these executive decrees in the hands of the professional manager. This system has resulted in over allocation of sewer in the Township #7 area which the city cannot service if they were required to do so. I pledge to the residents to continue to look at all items of government with research, phone calls to companies involved in business with the city to promise to you that your money is spend wisely."
