Progressive Insurance's Automotive X-Prize competition will be featured on Green magazine TV, a show produced by WDCC TV that airs on the Discovery Channel. The $10 million dollar competition is bringing together some of the most innovative minds in the world in a share effort to break America's addiction to oil. 111 teams representing 136 vehicle entries with 14 different fuel sources include established automakers, emerging start-ups, and universities, high school teams, as well as six teams who wish to remain confidential. Two classes of vehicles will compete: a mainstream class of vehicles that meet current consumer expectations for size and capability, and an alternative class, which is an outlet for innovative ideas that pus forward today's concept of "what a car is." A thorough qualification process will assess safety, cost, features and business plans to ensure only production-capable real cars compete.
