The Department of Energy applauds 3Degrees for taking a leading role in advancing markets for renewable energy
San Francisco, CA (Vocus) September 17, 2009
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized 3Degrees for its exceptional achievements in advancing the development and use of renewable energy through market-based green power programs. The Green Power Supplier of the Year Award was presented to 3Degrees during the Green Power Leadership Awards ceremony, an event held in conjunction with the Renewable Energy Markets Conference 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, September 14th, 2009.
DOE, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) honored 26 leading corporations, renewable energy suppliers and industry pioneers for helping advance the nation’s green power markets. 3Degrees was one of only five organizations to receive a Leadership Award in the DOE supplier category.
“The Department of Energy applauds 3Degrees for taking a leading role in advancing markets for renewable energy,” said Secretary Chu. “Green power is an effective way for businesses and households to reduce their carbon footprint, while creating jobs and cutting pollution. Through its innovative programs and partnerships, 3Degrees is responding to growing demand for clean, reliable electricity from our nation’s abundant renewable energy sources.”
DOE selected 3Degrees, in part, for its success in working with customers to engage stakeholders, investing in new renewable energy projects, and engaging with the business and regulatory communities to ensure transparency, accountability and access to renewable energy markets.
In the past year, 3Degrees has expanded its green power partnerships to utilities in three new states with a combined customer base of 4 million households. 3Degrees is a provider to 7 of the top 20 green power buyers in the U.S. and has supported over 400 renewable energy facilities across the nation.
Dan Kalafatas, President of 3Degrees, accepted this award on behalf of the 3Degrees team, which has been recognized by DOE four out of the last five years. “3Degrees is proud to accept the Green Power Supplier of the Year Award again in 2009,” said Kalafatas. “Our ability to continue building demand for renewable energy despite a difficult economy is a testament to our team’s hard work, diligence and optimism that we can affect change. Of course, we wouldn't be here without the commitment of our customers to supporting clean, renewable energy generation, and for that we would like to extend our gratitude.”
AmerenUE and Puget Sound Energy were among the numerous 3Degrees customers that were recognized at the event. Both utilities received awards for the success of their green power programs, which are marketed in partnership with 3Degrees.
About the Award
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) co-sponsors the Green Power Leadership Awards with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS). Each organization recognized has helped advance the development of the Nation's green power markets through the creation of successful green power programs. The goal of green power programs is to provide market-based choices for electricity consumers to purchase power from environmentally preferred sources.
For the 2009 Green Power Leadership Awards, three separate panels of judges reviewed over 100 nominations. Nominees in DOE’s supplier category were evaluated based upon the resources and technologies utilized, total annual renewable energy sales, number of customers served, market impact, amount of green power supplied, and overall value provided to participants.
