Automated reverse vending machines will help park visitors recycle and help support park conservancy

The Conservancy was looking for an efficient way to prevent litter in the park and also raise funds for the organization. TOMRA's reverse vending recycling machines provide picnickers and concert-goers with a clean, convenient receptacle for beverage container waste, while also offering an opportunity to donate the value of their for-deposit bottles or cans to a great cause

Tomra of North America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tomra Systems ASA (TOMRA) and leading global provider of advanced recycling solutions, in partnership with the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) and VOSS Water, will provide New York City's Madison Square Park Conservancy with three recycling machines for use in the organization's Madison Sq. Music: Studio Series daytime concert events on September 19th and 26th in Madison Square Park. The collection event is being held in conjunction with GPI's Recycle Glass Week, September 21st through 27th.

TOMRA's T-63 reverse vending machines - which collect, sort and compact used beverage containers - will allow park visitors to dispose of their glass, aluminum, and plastic beverage containers in the park these dates from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. As part of the recycling program, TOMRA, GPI, and VOSS Water, will offer recyclers prizes--including iPod Shuffles, t-shirts, and more--at random, in appreciation of their donations. All deposit refund monies collected from containers recycled on the two days will be donated to the Madison Square Park Conservancy.

"The Conservancy was looking for an efficient way to prevent litter in the park and also raise funds for the organization. TOMRA's reverse vending recycling machines provide picnickers and concert-goers with a clean, convenient receptacle for beverage container waste, while also offering an opportunity to donate the value of their for-deposit bottles or cans to a great cause," said Maggi Landau, Director of Events, Music Programs and Business Operations for Madison Square Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping Madison Square park "bright, beautiful and lively."

"Bringing reverse vending machines into Madison Square Park recognizes that park visitors are looking for a clean, convenient way to dispose of their empty bottles and cans. We are thrilled to be paving the way for other parks and event venues to explore reverse vending machines as an innovative and efficient recycling solution, that not only help keep public places clean, but also reduce waste haulage costs later," said Landau.
