THRIVE is a program designed to help parents learn how to best stimulate their child's communication skills
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) September 20, 2009
Everyone knows that Easter Seals has a long tradition of serving children with disabilities and special needs in the Tampa Bay area. But, did you know their newest program, THRIVE supports parents with customized tools, resources, and strategies to ensure their child not only succeeds but excels?
"THRIVE is a program designed to help parents learn how to best stimulate their child's communication skills," said Carolyn Larson, Program Director. "It also provides parents with behavior guidelines to encourage appropriate behavior from their child so they can thrive in their environment. In the extended 12-week program, parents will also receive activities and training on fine and gross motor development," said Larson.
The program consists of six weekly, parent and child small-group sessions. During each session parents receive tools and strategies to encourage speech and language development, behavior management, fine and gross motor development, and early learning. Parents learn how to make play count and discover teachable moments that impact learning. Goals of the THRIVE program for parents and their children include:
- Activities that lay the foundation to prepare their child for school
- Tools and strategies for encouraging communication development in daily activities
- Making playtime count
- Discovering teachable moments that impact learning
- Behavior guidelines to encourage appropriate behavior
- Developmental milestones for a child's speech, gross motor and fine motor development
"The sessions are led by Easter Seals trained professionals that include a Developmental Specialist, a Speech and Language Pathologist and for our extended 12 week session, a Physical Therapist," said Larson.
"We started the THRIVE program," said Don Nelsen, Chairman of the Easter Seals Board of Directors, "because we saw a need in the community of concerned parents who wanted to know how to best encourage their child's growth." "We are proud to offer high quality, meaningful services that positively impact the lives of children and families in the Tampa Bay area," said Nelsen.
