District Cites Improved Communications as a Key Factor in Closing the Achievement Gap

SchoolMessenger, a leading U.S. parental notification company, today applauded Aldine Independent School District for winning the prestigious Broad Prize for Urban Education award. Each year the award recognizes the nation's most outstanding urban school district that has improved student achievement while reducing the achievement gap among ethnic groups and income levels.

"We want to congratulate Aldine ISD for winning one of the largest and most prestigious awards in education today," said Sanford Kenyon, president of SchoolMessenger. "Closing the achievement gap has been a district goal for many years, and one way they address it is by placing a premium on communication. As reports prove and district officials can attest, when schools and families are connected a special trust and partnership develops and student achievement benefits. We are proud to have been a partner with Aldine ISD through this process and look forward to serving the district's communication needs long into the future."

The Broad Prize award, which includes $1 million in scholarship money for students, was presented to Aldine ISD on September 16 at the U.S. Capitol's Congressional Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

"Our school board, educators and support staff are united and relentless in closing achievement gaps between all populations and we support our students in every way we can," said Dr. Wanda Bamberg, Superintendent of Aldine ISD. "One of our district's core beliefs is that parents are children's first and best teachers. Communicating with them and soliciting their engagement are crucial to how well their children perform. SchoolMessenger has been a great partner in providing a valuable tool that helps connect Aldine ISD's schools and homes."
